(An Early Learner S T E A M – Science Technology Engineering Arts &       Math Program)

                        Session I (Register #10-1) - June 20-23

                        Session II (Register #10-2) – August 1-4

Our young scientists will conduct experiments with measuring, building, making observations, and identifying objects to tickle the investigator in us all!  Artists will mold, mesh, sculpt, paint, and design, all of which are part of Michigan’s Common Core Science Principles.  Whether it is sculpting a moving noodle robot, creating musical instruments, designing a running water wall, or dabbling with a variety of paints the human brain will be connected through critical thinking and creative design that kids love.  There is an artist and scientist in every child and now there is a cool camp for both!

A balance of high and low energy activities are planned with an incorporated rest-time activity.

       Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness Camp  

                                           Learning is Fun

                         Session I (Register #10-3) - June 27–30

This camp is designed with fun and excitement in mind, while giving your child the ingredients for new dimensions of personal academic growth.  Mornings are devoted to intense readiness skills and the afternoons are filled with camp-like, play-based experiences. 

A balance of high and low energy activities are planned with an incorporated rest-time activity.

                        Session II (Register #10-4) – July 11–14

This camp is designed to ignite curiosity, foster creativity and encourage the love of reading!   Campers will dive into the art and stories from the magical world of Eric Carle.  Some of the books we will explore written by this famous author include The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug and Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  Campers will construct art using some of the techniques Eric Carle uses to illustrate his books. Exploring with clay, painting, cutting and tearing to create a collage as well as sculpting will be enjoyed by campers as they create their own masterpieces. 

A balance of high and low energy activities are planned with an incorporated rest-time activity.

 

                                               Music Makers

                     Session III (Register #10-5) - July 18-21

This learning summer camp is joyful and game-like, full of singing, dancing, and instrument playing, with stories, props, puppets, and imagination. Each camp participant will come home singing good' ole fashion camp songs, finger plays, and rhymes all which help reinforce early learning concepts. Boys and girls will have fun making homemade instruments and arts and crafts projects.

A balance of high and low energy activities are planned with an incorporated rest-time activity.

                            
                               Princess / Super Hero Camp  

                        Session IV (Register #10-5) - July 25-28

This dual camp is filled with all of the magical things your Princesses dream of and designed to show your Super Hero how powerful they are! Your Princess and Super Hero will learn leadership skills, how to develop an action plan, and learn how to connect with others to create positive change.  Our daily activities are fun and interactive with emphasis on kindness to all. Campers will learn how to connect with others to create positive change and will explore the finer qualities that make being a real Princesses and Super Hero so special. Campers will learn how to think globally and how much they can really help the world. 

Costumes encouraged!

A balance of high and low energy activities are planned with an incorporated rest-time activity.

 Our week long Summer Exploration Camps are taught by a Michigan Certified ZA (Early Childhood) Endorsed Teacher through Excel Advantage Foundation partnered with Orchard Lake Schools.  The camps will prepare your child for a successful academic beginning.

Figure Skating is a unique and beneficial activity for children of all ages to participate in. It allows youth to combine creativity with physical exercise. With so many avenues in figure skating to explore such as freestyle, synchronized skating, ice dance, moves in the field, and theater on ice; there is no better place to start than to learn the fundamentals of this sport! 

 

This 8 week program is designed for any beginner ages 3-14 that has interest in learning the basic skills of figure skating. Each skater will be grouped by skill level and age. Please note on registration forms if your skater has any previous experience in Learn To Skate classes. The first five weeks of the program are designed for skaters to take a Learn To Skate class to discover and master specific fundamentals of skating. The last 3 weeks of skating classes are designed for skaters to explore different avenues of figure skating such as how to work as a team in a synchronized skating environment, practice individual patterns for ice dance, or perform a freestyle routine. Selection of specific skating avenues  are dependent on class level. A special guest will perform on the final day of camp.  
Sessions will be one hour on Saturday's beginning, June 11, 2016 through Saturday, August 20 with no classes June 18,July 2nd or July 9th for holiday break.

Figure Skating

Robotics Camp

                                         Robotics Camp

  Make sure you bring creativity and motivation to learn about robotics. Students will spend their days learning about various concepts,components, and applications used on modern robots.

The 5 day Robotics camp will include demonstrations on how to design, build and program robotic sensors and motors to achieve an assortment of challenges. Formulated for students-both boys and girls-that have little or no experience using robots, this compelling course will spark imaginations and promises to be a memorable and fun time.

Wrestling

                                                                  Wrestling Camp

 

Wrestlers of all ages will learn takedowns and be shown the importance of the setup, penetration step, and the finish. Counters to each take down will be drilled. Leg rides with turns and tilts along with several pinning combinations will be shown. From the bottom, wrestlers will learn escapes and reversals. Conditioning, eating habits, good sportsmanship, and training options will be discussed throughout the day. This camp is presented by Orchard Lake St. Mary's Preparatory and Head Wrestling Coach Chris Brecht. Wrestlers will learn from some of the best coaches:

Since 1977,more than 40,000 campers have attended our summer camps. Campers stay on the campus of the Orchard Lake Schools in a semi-private dorm room under the supervision of the camp staff (5:1Camper/Counselor). Our coaching staff is committed to providing the best possible learning environment for campers to grow and develop to the best of their ability. Our goal of the camp is to provide a fun-filled atmosphere conducive to developing a love for the game

 Coach George Porritt helps campers learn about themselves through the roller coaster experiences with sports while providing an excellent role model along with the coaches and counselors hired to work at any of the camps. Coach Porritt’s goal is to provide a fun-filled atmosphere conducive to developing a love for the game.

                                                Girls Volleyball Camp

The St. Mary's Volleyball Camp will be led by coaches Angie McGinnis-Hasseman, Brittany McGinnis, ans Mary Sand.

 Angie McGinnis-Hasseman spent five years with the USA National Team and was an alternate for the 2008 Olympics. A four year starting setter for the University of Florida, she was also a three time All-American and two-time SEC Player of the Year. Angie is currently the volunteer assistant coach at University of Buffalo and coaches at Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club.

 Brittany McGinnis is a former setter from Ball State University and a former assistant coach at Oakland University.  Brittany is currently a national level club coach and varsity coach at Anchor Bay High School.

 Mary Sand is a former outside hitter from Madonna University and Illinois State University. Mary is currently a club coach and assistant varsity coach at Anchor Bay High School.

Daily instruction for both camps will cover basic to advanced level of skills in a fun-field and exciting atmosphere. Campers will receive hands on instruction from some of the best coaches in the area. Campers will compete in various drills and training stations, as well as participate in game-like situations. Whether you're beginner or competing for a schools team or sharpening your skills, the Orchard Lake St. Mary's Volleyball camp will prepare athletes to attain their goals.

Welcome to the Orchard Lake 3rd annual Theatre Arts Camp. You child will have four days of amazing experiences learning all about the theatre through fun classes and hysterical competitions. They will learn: Improvisation, puppets, monologues, dance, stage combat, stage blocking (movement) and many other aspects of theatre. Campers will also have time to swim and visit our activity rec room. You will be treated to a show at the end of camp that will make you laugh and sing along. Michael Brody has been either directing or acting in theatre since 1981. He is the coordinator of 2 after school drama programs and has directed over 40 shows. Join us for this wonderful learning experience. Make new friends and create some great memories of your fun time at theatre arts camp.

Theatre Arts

                                              Fundamental Football Camp

The Orchard Lake Schools Summer Fundamental Football Camp will teach young men the sport of Football.  This camp will not only lead to individual improvement, but will also help in teaching discipline and teamwork. We will go over Offensive, Defensive, & Special Teams Formations, Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Linebacker, & Defensive Back Techniques. Each camper will have one-on-one coaching at their specific position everyday during the camp to help in their development. At the end of the camp week, the campers will have great knowledge, a love and passion for the sport. This will be a challenging camp that will get them ready for the 2016 Football Season. For each unique position, below are the specifics that the Coaches will be going over with the campers.

  • Quarterbacks - Snaps, Footwork, Ball-handling/Security, Passing, Route-Reading, Option-Skill
  • Running Backs - Footwork, Hand-Offs, Ball-Security, Speed Training, Reading Lanes, Blocking, Pass Routes

  • Defensive Line - Rip, Spin, Swim, Push-Pull moves, Bull-Rush,V-of-the-neck Technique, Tackling Techniques, Gap Control

We challenge campers to develop a sense of group participation and individual stewardship, instilling confidence in each camper in a fun-filled atmosphere. Join us for an entertaining, active, unique, and educational summertime adventure. Each daily activity will be fun and interactive for children to learn and grow.  They will be facilitated by teachers knowledgeable in building; social skills, conflict resolution skills, and self-esteem while also building on academic skills. Activities will include arts & crafts designed to develop creativity and personal style, outdoor games, and a variety of activities guaranteed to enhance a love of learning while fostering ownership of learning in each of its participants.

Campers will be investigating the nature that surrounds St. Mary's campus. Expect singing, educational learning, caring for animals and amazing stories. They will learn about animals, bugs, and the environment while they explore the world around them.  Campers will create fun nature related crafts and participate in entertaining nature games including a scavenger hunt, obstacle courses and water activities.
